Job summary

The Learning Disability Community Team is long established and works to improve the lives of adults with a learning disability in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Learning Disability Crisis Response Team (CRIST) is a recently expanded MDT that work to prevent placement breakdown and hospitalisation of adults with a learning disability in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Due to the promotion of the current post holder, we have a full-time vacancy for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable speech and language therapist.

Half your time you will spend working with our community patients, managing communication and dysphagia cases. The rest of your time will be spend working in our Learning Disability Crisis Response Team (CRIST) supporting learning disabled adults who are at risk of placement breakdown and hospital admission.

Working across two teams you will find a supportive and wide-ranging multidisciplinary team including psychology, nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy as well as access to dieticians and psychiatry.

The work is fast-paced and interesting with a wide range of clients and contexts.

You will have regular management and clinical supervision, reflective practice sessions and CPD opportunities.

There are opportunities for blended and flexible working, career development and MDT working.

Main duties of the job

You will be working across community and CRIST managing a diverse and wide-ranging caseload to include communication and dysphagia. There is an expectation that you will act as CRIST practitioner for which full training and support will be given.

You will participate in multidisciplinary meetings, pathway discussions and work in a holistic way to ensure the needs of our patients are met.

You will have the opportunity to participate in Service Development initiatives, pathway development through our Pathway Improvement Groups.

You will support regular student placements and there may be opportunities to supervise assistants.
