Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust

Job summary

This is an exciting new role that involves working within a team of psychologists, with a team base, as well as working with medical MDTs.

The role allows the successful applicant to gain experience working within the general medical service alongside the chance to gain more specialist skills. All aspects of these roles involve working with teams of clinical psychologists, therefore are very supportive and well-supervised.

We are a well-established psychology department and we are in the fortunate position of receiving recent funding for a number of new positions, which has led to this new role being created. We are very flexible, happy to offer job share/less sessions, if required. The role can also be adapted to both band 7 and 8a psychologists.

Despite the apparent specialist nature of the post it offers an opportunity to use all the transferrable skills gained through training, in a rewarding setting. It also offers a really diverse and interesting post.

There is also an emphasis on encouraging psychologists to pursue a range of CPD to further develop their skills. As a team we meet regularly for case presentations, clinical governance and business meetings. We also have a monthly peer group meeting and regular time-out to enable reflection and service development. We have a team base at Leicester General Hospital, although also work at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The psychologist would work up to three sessions in our general medical team, who offer support to all areas of the acute trust which do not have specialist funding. This is a varied and rewarding role, offering group work, one to one assessment and therapy, as well as assessments for suitability for surgery.

The post would include working (0.5 wte) with the Haematology team. This would involve supporting the 8b psychologist in setting up new psychological input to this service, working closely with the MDT, supporting patients within this service. There is also one session to support the two psychologists currently setting up a new service to support the ITU team.

We may also have one session a week for the candidate to work with the chronic pancreatitis clinic. The latter is an innovative MDT, which is involved in training other services and actively researching the impact of the clinic.

There is the opportunity to input to meetings and clinics, offering training and supervision to psychologists, health service staff, assistants and trainees.

The department is friendly, supportive and flexible. The team includes clinical and counselling psychologists, trainees, assistants and excellent admin/clerical support. We place great emphasis on supervision and personal development.
