Job summary

Learning Disabilities: Speech and Language Therapist - Band 7, 0.8FTE.

An opportunity not to be missed suitable for experienced Speech and Language Therapists who are currently in a leadership position or looking to further develop their skills in this area.

Do you have an interest in making a positive difference to clients who have a Learning Disability and / or Mental Health issues across Leicester and Leicestershire?

The role will include

To provide highly specialist person centered communication and/or swallowing assessment and intervention to patients in the community who have a Learning Disability.

To work jointly with other senior members of the SLT team to deliver the communication strategy and implementation of the nutrition and hydration pathway.

To manage and provide clinical leadership and supervision to the SLT Community learning disability team working in partnership with Service and Team Managers

To provide highly specialist advice and supervision in relation to SLT in learning disabilities across the SLT service and to other professions and teams.

To support the Senior SLT team to ensure compliance with professional standards and development of high-quality integrated care across learning disability services

Essential

  • Diploma or degree in SLT and HCPC registered
  • Member of RCSLT
  • A Master level qualification/post graduate management qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Evidence of continuous professional, management
  • Knowledge of professional issues at a national, regional and local level
  • Experience of working with adults with learning disabilities or transferable skills
  • Car driver/owner essential, vehicle lease scheme is provided by the trust

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification or advanced training
  • Experience of performance management, complaints, serious incidents and ability to give recommendations and follow up necessary action
  • Ability to manage budgets, signing of petty cash, mileage claims, purchase of team equipment.
  • Experience and specialist knowledge of current approaches to professional leadership, clinical engagement and change management and agreements for leasing of vehicle.
