Job summary
As part of Oldham Psychological Medicine Services (OPMS) ongoing innovative work, an exciting new opportunity has arisen for a GP with special interest. This is a substantive, part time appointment which would fit alongside other roles. The post holder would work with the current OPMS leadership team to develop the clinical intervention, which would focus on people with persistent physical symptoms, alongside high healthcare utilisation and complex polypharmacy. The post holder would a member of the psychological medicine team, including psychiatric and therapy colleagues, and would have the opportunity to co work where appropriate. The post holder would have space dedicated to developing links with primary care in order to maximise the benefit of the proposed intervention, as well as supporting OPMS in it's educational work.
Main duties of the job
The broad aim of OPMS is to support people with complex health needs, and those who care for them including professionals. The aim is to bridge the gap between physical and mental health care, and primary and secondary care. The service is for patients aged 16 and over.
The role will include implementation, delivery and evaluation of the service by working closely with the other clinicians and managers involved and supported by the OPMS.

This may include people with significant medical complexity and polypharmacy. The post holder will liaise with Primary Care clinicians and managers and Primary and Secondary Care Mental Health Services (including substance misuse services) amongst others. This may involve case discussion with Primary Care staff. There may also be liaison with clinicians working in primary care networks including practice nursing staff, social care professionals and community healthcare staff.
Education & training
This will involve identifying the learning needs of Primary Care and Primary Care Mental Health staff and others and developing a suitable educational and training approach to be delivered in a variety of formats and settings. As a GP the post holder will also be involved in the training of local mental health staff, including within PCMS.
Management
The post holder will attend relevant project planning meetings as well as other Pennine Care Oldham Cares events that support the delivery of the project.
The post holder will take an active role in developing this area of work with the support of the team lead, rest of the team, IAPT services, the Psychological Medicine Service, Pennine Care and local commissioners.
Clinician and patient rated outcome measures, patient rated experience measures and health care utilization data will be collected. The amount and impact of educational activity will be evaluated. This will be done with the support of existing Pennine Care structures.
