Team Manager - Military Veterans Service

Job summary

The Team Manager will be responsible for the operational management and development of the long-established Military Veterans Service in conjunction with the senior management team.

Military Veterans' Service is a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist which is commissioned to offer psychological treatment and intervention to Veterans of the British Armed Forces (including current reservists when not mobilised) who live in Greater Manchester and Lancashire, who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties related to their military service, Whose mental health condition is related to their military service, e.g. linked to experiences whilst serving and/or difficulties with transition to civilian life; and who are suitable for psychological therapy but unable or unwilling to access local mainstream services; and not currently being treated by secondary care mental health services. The post holder will manage the operational requirements of the service, and have clear aims for the team's development and be able to achieve targets and goals set.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To operationally manage the Military Veterans Service.
  • To effectively manage, direct and supervise the work of staff within the team.
  • To effectively and efficiently manage resources within the team in liaison with the service manager.
  • To ensure the team work to national legislation, local policies and procedures and eligibility criteria.
  • To ensure the service works to agreed objectives and targets and meets service KPIs.
  • To work with and monitor performance within clinics and the impact on the Mental Health Service.
  • Coordination of the workforce to ensure all clinical activity is covered.
  • To ensure the team have appropriate training, clinical skills and supervision to meet the needs of the service.
  • To promote the veteran mental health agenda across the MH service

Clinical

  • To be responsible for the on-going planning and development of the Military Veterans clinical Team in line with the overall aims of the Trust goals.
  • To be responsible for decision-making and professional advice on individual cases and the allocation of resources to meet individual assessed needs.
  • To be a source of clinical expertise and advice for the team in the execution of their duties.
  • To be able to provide practical support within the clinics where needed, and to maintain skill base.
  • To support the development of the carer forums within the triangle of carer.
  • To lead on the resolution of complaints from service users and carers as per Trust policy.
  • To report and complete incident forms, lead on investigations and other governance processes as per Trust policy.
  • To write reports for coroners inquests, mental health tribunals and other legal processes as required.
  • To lead on and manage all HR processes within the team as per Trust policy and in conjunction with HR and the service manager

Financial
  • In liaison with the service manager, manage budgets allocated to the team within financial limits and policies.
  • To report any financial concerns or pressures to the line manager.

Information Resources
  • To manage and maintain systems for planning and allocation of work and for the setting and reviewing of targets, standards and priorities to the team.
  • To comply and ensure compliance with all systems, financial, personnel, administrative, management information, client records, as directed by the line manager or service policy / procedures.
  • To manage and implement the regular performance monitoring criteria for data collection and ensure adjustments are made as necessary.

Research and Development
  • To undertake specific development work, to write reports, and contribute to the overall management of the service as directed by line manager.
  • To implement changes in practice and procedures identified through regular monitoring review as outlined by senior management.

Staffing / Management
  • To allocate work, to ensure effective performance, and implement the service working procedures as well as managerial and professional policies.
  • To effectively manage staff and provide managerial supervision and annual personal development plan in accordance with the Knowledge and Skills Framework.
  • To ensure professional supervision systems are in place.
  • To participate in the recruitment and appointment of staff within agreed HR procedures.
  • To chair MDT meetings, reviews, conferences, planning meetings as required.
  • To respond to enquiries and complaints within the framework of the complaints procedure.
  • To work in partnership with other statutory, independent sector and other agencies, in the effective discharge of the duties of the post.
