Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an innovative audit and surveillance support worker to join our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team. The team is based at the Trust Headquarters in Ashton-Under-Lyne and cover five boroughs of Greater Manchester, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and Tameside and Glossop.

Infection surveillance is a very challenging, essential, and ever-changing component of healthcare. The main duty of the team within the IPC service is to provide the Trusts mandatory and voluntary audit and surveillance programme. This includes working within tight protocols and definitions as defined by UK Health Security Agency, NHS England, and other professional bodies as well as local initiatives. Our key areas of work focus on the surveillance of health care associated infections, but we are also involved in many other projects such as hand hygiene, mattress auditing sharps management and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

We are looking for someone committed to evidence-based practice with an ability to interrogate data. The successful candidate will work as part of our existing team to identify opportunities for change and contribute to improvement work which embeds good IPC into clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

The infection prevention and control (IPC) Audit & Surveillance Support Worker will undertake audit & surveillance within mental health and learning disabilities by undertaking audits on all wards and community clinics and recording information on electronic record keeping systemsThe post holder will work as part of the IPC team providing high quality and accurate data to meet the needs of the IPC service. Data submitted to the IPC team via local laboratories will be cleansed, analysed, and reported to services to raise awareness and ensure improvements are made.The post holder will be responsible for the smooth running of surveillance systems and processes for the IPC team providing administration and supporting in clinical audits.The IPC Audit & Surveillance Support Worker will assist in the collection of relevant clinical data for use by the IPC team to assist them with maintenance of records and statistics relating to HCAI
