Job summary
Following significant investment, we are expanding our Allied Health Profession (AHP) provision across our inpatient mental health services. We are looking for a Dietitian, Speech and Language Therapist or Physiotherapist with proven clinical skills and knowledge of mental health to lead our new AHP inpatient team.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity combining specialist clinical practice and leadership. You will need to be an excellent team player and have strong leadership skills to support AHPs working within the team and ensure services are effectively integrated into the wider inpatient multi-disciplinary team. You will carry a designated caseload within your area of expertise and use your knowledge of mental health services to support the strategic development of the team and our wider physical health plans for inpatient services.
Within the role you will have support and opportunity to participate in cross trust strategic meetings to improve patient care. You will be given time to design and lead training initiatives to develop staff skills alongside other AHPs within the team and support the development of innovative student placement opportunities.
You will be managed by the Head of Allied Health Professionals and Social Workers and receive regular management supervision. Separate to this we offer clinical supervision and space to take part in professional forums and activities to maintain your expert professional practice.

- Provide effective leadership and management to all the AHP staff within the Trust Wide AHP Inpatient Team and to support the team to achieve the highest possible care and performance standards
- To lead on the recruitment, selection, appointment and induction of staff within the Trust Wide AHP Inpatient Team
- To provide expert clinical assessment, formulation, care planning and intervention maintaining a high level of autonomous clinical practice.
- Ensure high quality and safe care is delivered by all members of the AHP Inpatient Team, adhering to best practice guidelines, while meeting service targets, maintaining financial control in close liaison with the Head of AHPs & Social Workers, locality Service Managers and Strategic leads
- Be responsible for setting the strategic direction of Physiotherapists, Dietitians and Speech & Language Therapists working within inpatient services, with specific responsibility for the oversight of education and professional issues and for ensuring optimum standards of patient care and experience through the effective and efficient management of all associated resources, in line with agreed objectives, performance targets, quality standards and resource controls.
- Represent these designated AHP professions within trust business and strategy meetings as well as inter-agency partnerships or public forums with a view to promoting the role and influence of AHPs within the wider political and health economy as required.

- Management / leadership qualification and experience
- Post graduate qualification or equivalent experience to Masters level
- Extensive post registration experience in professional management or leadership
- Evidence of managing a clinical caseload of patients with complex clinical needs
- Experience of working with service users with a range of mental health conditions
- Experience of delivering change through service redesign in order to improve outcomes for patients, working with management teams, clinical staff, service users and other stakeholders
- Experience of multi-agency and / or cross-boundary working for health gain and improved patient experience
- Awareness of recent government policies and directives and the implications for mental health and AHP service delivery
- Well-developed leadership and influencing skills across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical groups
- Demonstrable team working skills and ability to lead and manage a range of individuals
