Role Summary:
As a charge nurse on you will have the chance to demonstrate leadership in many different clinical situations. Your contribution to the quality of care provided will be valued by the wider multi-disciplinary team. There is support and supervision for further study that relates to secure nursing care including mentorship.
We are committed to working collaboratively with our patients and providing a service that is least restrictive whilst also fitting with the boundaries that are appropriate to low secure risk management.
Main duties of the job
With the referral team and Responsible Clinician, undertake assessment of patients referred for Low Secure Rehabilitation and feedback as required
Undertake comprehensive, patient-focused, nursing assessment and co-produce care plans in consultation with the service user and their families and carers
Undertake comprehensive risk assessment and formulate risk management plans with Service Users, their families and Carers,
Assist the Unit Manager in developing a service that will ensure that the needs of patients are met with regard to their age, spiritual, cultural, ethnic and sexual orientation
To assist the Unit Manager with the on-going development of the unit
In the absence of the manager, undertake responsibility for the day to day running of the unit
In consultation with the multi-disciplinary team, ensure high standards of individual care for patients and that they are fully consulted and involved in every aspect of their care
To provide management and clinical supervision to members of staff.
To conduct annual appraisals/IPDRs for staff members

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated candidate to get involved with a dynamic and evolving service . Tatton Unit e is a Low Secure Unit for male patients with complex needs. The unit has 16 beds based at Tameside General Hospital . We are currently looking to appoint to a number of band 6 positions. We are looking for individuals with a genuine interest in working with a complex and challenging patient group.
We cater for patients with a severe enduring mental illness with co-morbid substance use, personality disorder and challenging behaviour. Many of our referrals are taken from medium secure, low secure, prison, The unit benefits from a variety of practitioners and roles including occupational therapy, social work, , medical staff, and psychology in addition to the nursing teams.The majority of people we support have spent years, sometimes decades, in secure services. They have not been able to leave secure services because their risks remain, usually as they have been unable to benefit from effective treatment programmes.Nevertheless, we are still committed to rehabilitation, which is about building on existing strengths, and developing skills and coping strategies to maximise each individual's functioning and to minimise the disabling effects of their illness.
Tatton Unit is a member of the Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services. This is a peer review process with other Low and Medium secure units across the country

Desirable

- Evidence of the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care ? Able to undertake thorough risk assessments ? Previous Nursing Experience / working in a fast pace challenging environment ?
