Job summary

The mental health pharmacy team in Pennine Care is progressive and forward-thinking. It supports and promotes the safe and effective use of medicines throughout inpatient and community services. We are looking for a senior mental health pharmacist to join our team to cover maternity leave at the Tameside site for 18 months

Main duties of the job

Based in the mental health units in our Tameside locality the post holder will optimise the use of medicines in a variety of inpatient settings and community mental health services and participate in regular ward rounds. The role will involve working with the multidisciplinary teams and patients to improve the use of medicines, the delivery of training in medicines management, participation in audit work and attendance at the Trust Drugs and Therapeutics Committee and sub-groups. Also supporting the shared care/ prescribing agenda. The locality team includes a lead pharmacist and ward-based pharmacy technician.

About us

The post-holder will be supported by the Trust's dedicated team of mental health pharmacists and technicians, receive clinical supervision and attend team meetings. There is also an opportunity for the post holder to take the pharmacy team clinical lead role for physical health once appointed.

As this is a clinical post there is no dispensary commitment, and no requirement for emergency duty, bank holiday or weekend working.

To provide, manage, organise and develop the clinical pharmacy service to a Borough of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

To ensure that the clinical pharmacy service provided meets with the national standards for the delivery of the pharmaceutical services to mental health.

To ensure that all developments required for the pharmacy service are incorporated into the business plans for the Borough.

To ensure that pharmacy services work within agreed guidelines to ensure effective medicines management.

To ensure the delivery of effective medicines management in conjunction with medical and nursing staff

To ensure the implementation of all Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures that impact on medicines management and pharmaceutical care.

To work in close liaison with other pharmacists and technical staff providing a pharmacy service to Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust under Service Level Agreement (SLA), to ensure the delivery and supply of medication to the mental health wards, departments and units.

To work with the Chief Pharmacist and South Network Lead Pharmacist to ensure that there is liaison with the Service Directors and/ or medical manager about medicines management issues, as necessary.

Applicants must be pharmacists registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, have experience of mental health pharmacy and a post graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy.
