Job summary

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic, autonomous and motivated Team Manager who has an interest in armed forces mental health and is keen to develop the service.

The team manager will oversee a clinical team as well as our veterans services administration and volunteer team.

The MVS is a multi-disciplinary and award winning team led by a Consultant Psychologist & commissioned to offer psychological treatment & intervention to Veterans of the British Armed Forces (including current reservists when not mobilised) who live in Greater Manchester & Lancashire, who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties related to their military service e.g. linked to experiences whilst serving &/or difficulties with transition to civilian life; and who are suitable for psychological therapy but unable or unwilling to access local mainstream services; & not currently being treated by secondary care mental health services.

Previous experience of working with military veterans would be an advantage or be able to demonstrate an understanding of British armed forces communities.

Main duties of the job

The Team Manager will be oversee the operational requirements of the long-established Military Veterans Service in conjunction with the senior management team.The post holder will have clear aims for the team's development and be able to achieve targets and goals set.

The post holder must have a sound clinical knowledge and experience of working in a mental health community setting, must be able to motivate staff to achieve high clinical standards and be able to use leadership skills to develop and promote a strong culture of quality, safety, clinical excellence and learning.Experience is of case managing clients who have common / complex mental health difficulties or experience of care coordination including the delivery of psychological interventions is essential.

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust are proud to host the Greater Manchester & Lancashire Military Veterans' Service (MVS) a specialist service commissioned to provide psychological treatment and interventions to ex service personnel of the British Armed Forces (including current reservists when not mobilised) who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties related to their military service.

The MVS is co-located with the NHS Op Courage- Mental Health & Wellbeing Service North West which is a cross regional community service for ex-serving personnel, reservists, those transitioning out of the armed forces with a discharge date and their families/carers.

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust provide the MVS in collaboration with Military Service Charity Walking With The Wounded to deliver additional welfare case coordination and IPS Employment Support.

Operational Duties and Responsibilities To operationally manage the Military Veterans Service.

To effectively manage, direct and supervise the work of staff within the team.

To effectively and efficiently manage resources within the team in liaison with the regional services lead

To ensure the team work to national legislation, local policies and procedures and eligibility criteria.

To ensure the service works to agreed objectives and targets and meets service KPIs.

To work with and monitor performance within clinics and the impact on the Mental Health Service.

Coordination of the workforce to ensure all clinical activity is covered.

To ensure the team have appropriate training, clinical skills and supervision to meet the needs of the service.

To promote the veteran mental health agenda across the MH service

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities To be responsible for the on-going planning and development of the Military Veterans Clinical Team in line with the overall aims of the Trust goals. To be responsible for decision-making and professional advice on individual cases and the allocation of resources to meet individual assessed needs. To be a source of clinical expertise and advice for the team in the execution of their duties. To be able to provide practical support within the clinics where needed, and to maintain skill base. To support the development of the veterans carer forums within the triangle of care. To lead on the resolution of complaints from clients and carers as per Trust policy. To report and complete incident forms, lead on investigations and other governance processes as per Trust policy. To write reports for coroners inquests, mental health tribunals and other legal processes as required. To lead on and manage all HR processes within the team as per Trust policy and in conjunction with HR and the regional services lead

Financial duties & Responsibilities

In liaison with the regional services lead, manage budgets allocated to the team within financial limits and policies. To report any financial concerns or pressures to your line manager.

Information Resources To manage and maintain systems for planning and allocation of work and for the setting and reviewing of targets, standards and priorities to the team. To comply and ensure compliance with all systems, financial, personnel, administrative, management information, client records, as directed by the line manager or service policy /procedures. To manage and implement the regular performance monitoring criteria for data collection and ensure adjustments are made as necessary.

Research and Development: To undertake specific development work, to write reports, and contribute to the overall management of the service as directed by the Clinical Lead or Service Lead. To implement changes in practice and procedures identified through regular monitoring review as outlined by senior management.

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker or Practitioner Psychologist or Psychotherapist
