Job summary

Moorside Ward is an 18 bedded unit that is based in the John Elliot Unit on the site of Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale.

We are an admissions ward that cares for female adults of working age that are experiencing acute episodes of mental illness. We are passionate advocates of the recovery model and we believe everybody has the right to excellent care.

We are looking for a registered mental health nurse who is both an excellent nurse, clinician, and leader. You may already be a senior nurse working at band 7 or you may be a clinical lead working at a band 6 who is ready for the next step in your career. If you are looking for your next step or a move, you will be fully supported in your new role.

You will manage the ward and it's resources, taking appropriate action to ensure that standards of care are continually exceptional and that staff receive timely clinical supervision, appraisal, and complete mandatory training.

This is an opportunity to develop your operational leadership skills and to take a lead role in providing clinical excellence within the ward environment through working collaboratively with the service manager, the single ward consultant, and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The ward manager is responsible for the management of the clinical environment to ensure that the units provide a high quality service to the service users in their care.

Key Responsibilities of the Post:

  • To be responsible for the recruitment, deployment and management of staff.
  • To ensure staff undertakes specialist assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care needs of service users in their care
  • To lead and be responsible for the clinical management of the ward with service users, who may present with complex behaviours that challenge services
  • To allocate and support individuals with delegated work and review progress as agreed. To co-ordinate and monitor the delivery of person-centered healthcare, using complex clinical decision making where appropriate
  • Leading the team, setting out the highest standards of care.
  • Being a positive role model for staff.
  • Creating a pleasant and productive working environment where there is a strong sense of identity in the team and shared goals.
  • Ensuring the ward is recovery-focused.
