Job responsibilities

1. Delivery of Under 2s psychoanalytic psychotherapy service provision within the parameters of child and adolescent mental health, in a multiagency context.
2. To provide specialist psychoanalytic psychotherapy assessment for Under 2s who may be experiencing severe, highly complex and persistent mental health difficulties and to make decisions about treatment options taking into account relevant evidence based research, theory, practice and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes.
3. To formulate and implement plans for therapeutic intervention and management from the point of referral, grounded in the principle and techniques of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
4. To develop specialist provision for the parents of infants and young children using models of practice employed within other Under 2s services.
5. To provide specialist expertise in psychoanalytic principles and techniques through advice and consultation to other members of the PIMH service and colleagues within the network.
6. Post-holder will be expected to hold and work their own caseload within the context of the PIMH service.
7. To be part of the PIMH Duty" rota providing appropriate information, advice, support, consultation to a range of professionals, and families.
8. To actively participate in PIMH weekly presentation, referral, CPD and business meetings.
9. To attend and contribute as an independent clinician to multidisciplinary and multi-agency meetings as appropriate.
10. To ensure appropriate liaison with professionals from external agencies.
11. To participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical work and the service as a whole.
12. To contribute to the development of best evidence based practice within the service.
13. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility based on the Code of Professional and Ethics of the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
14. To be involved in PIMH service development as required.
15. To work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively regarding parents, infants and young children.
16. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of patients and manage a caseload in line with the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics of the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
17. To assist in the management of the PIMH caseload across Stockport, as required.
18. To produce reports on families, in a timely manner, that convey the key findings of assessment, formulation and treatment outcome in a way which does justice to the complexity of the problems described; which takes account of confidentiality; and in a way which is understandable to the recipients of the reports.
19. To participate in regular line management supervision.

Service development

1. In collaboration with others, to contribute to the development of Under 2s PIMH service across Stockport.
2. Under the direction of the Stockport PIMH Clinical Lead contribute to development and planning of Under 2s service in PIMH and CAMHS Service.
3. To communicate and work with other staff and agencies including CAMHS, adult mental health, early years, education, children social services and voluntary sector agencies, to provide an integrated and accessible service for Under 2s.

Supervision and Training

1. To contribute to pre and post qualification training and supervision for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists where appropriate.
2. To provide as appropriate specialist clinical supervision or case consultation for professional trainees of related professions and for professionally trained members of the service.
3. To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with parents, infants and young children across a range of agencies and settings where appropriate.

Continuing Professional Development

1. To receive regular clinical and service related supervision from a more senior CAPT (external).
2. To gain additional highly specialist experience and training relevant to CAPT.
3. To fully participate in and contribute to, clinical supervision of staff in PIMH service.
4. To fully participate in, and contribute to, training events associated with PIMH service.
5. To attend regular case consultation meetings with senior colleagues.
6. To maintain and develop skills in post graduate teaching, training and supervision.
7. To participate in an annual appraisal process.
8. To attend to CPD and training needs as identified in supervision and KSF Review.

Clinical Governance and Research

1. To participate in audit and evaluation of PIMH services.
2. To participate in evaluation of all clinical activity within the post and provide such information as required by the Clinical Lead of PIMH and operational manager for CAMHS for the purpose of service monitoring and evaluation.
3. To participate in all research activities associated with PIMH as appropriate to this role and as required by the Clinical Lead of PIMH.
4. To utilise theory evidence based literature and research to support effective practice.
5. To represent a professional view point in relation to nationally accepted good practice and to ensure a high level of ethical standards and professional conduct.
6. To participate in service evaluation and research in consultation with Clinical Lead of PIMH service.

Administrative

1. To maintain records consistent with the current legislation.
2. To undertake the administrative duties appropriate to the tasks.
3. To be aware of the mechanisms of Clinical Governance, Quality Assurance and audit of PIMH

1. To act in accordance with the policies of the Trust (including child protection and resuscitation), Directorate, Department and Association of Child Psychotherapy Professional Practice and Ethical Guidelines.

• Professional qualifications as a Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist as recognised by the Association of Child Psychotherapists. o
• Full membership of the Association of Child Psychotherapists
• Experience of working with patient groups presenting high levels of complexity, including infants, young children and families.
• Experience in psychotherapy assessment and therapeutic work with infants and young children and their families/ parents/carers with a full range of presenting problems.
• Experience of representing clinical child psychotherapy within the context of multidisciplinary and multi-agency treatment and care.
• Experience of consulting with other professionals in Health, Education, Social Services and Local Authority.
• Knowledge of legislation and national guidance in relation to the needs of infants and young children. D
• Working knowledge of professional systems involved in work with infant and young children, particularly in relation to the statutory framework around child protection
• Evidence of awareness of parental mental health in relation to infant/child mental health matters. Evidence of clinical supervision.
• octoral level (or equivalent) knowledge of child and adolescent psychotherapy, including highly developed knowledge of psychoanalytical theories and models of development, psychopathology, family and institutional dynamics.
