Job summary
#JoinUsBeYou at Walkerwood Unit, Tameside.
Our new specialist psychiatric intensive care unit, Walkerwood unit, opened on 19th October 2022. The unit has been designed with our staff, patients and their recovery in mind. An effective and efficient recovery journey is the aim, and we trust the design of this unit will support them on that recovery journey.
We wanted our staff and patients, those at the heart of the unit, to decide its name. And they decided to name it after local beauty spot, Walkerwood. Our approach at Walkerwood unit is a therapy-based approach and we couldn't think of a more fitting name.
To assist in that approach, we would like a consultant psychiatrist to join the team. If you're a new CCT holder or you've been in the game for a while, you'll be welcomed with open arms by our #PennineCarePeople.
As Walkerwood Unit is a brand new unit, we want you to be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services, being involved with the team manager and locality manager in helping to steer the development of the service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.
The unit has been described by NHS England as a best practice example nationally. We're pretty proud of that, so why not take a look for yourself by taking a virtual tour. It will be a great place to work and for our patients to recover, and we want you to be a part of that culture.
Main duties of the job
Our main role at Walkerwood is to provide short-term, intensive assessment, treatment and therapy. Their average duration of stay will be four weeks. Each patient has their own en-suite room, and we can support up to 10 patients at a time.
We will be the gatekeeping unit for all PICU admissions across the trust and these referrals can be from various sources to include adult wards, 136 suite, police, prisons and community mental health teams.
As the consultant psychiatrist on walkerwood unit your main priority will be along with your team to deliver a quality clinical service. And here's just some of the ways in which you'll do that...
Take part in core clinical work (consistent with Royal College of Psychiatry requirements)Assume role of responsible clinician (RC) and take clinical responsibility for the 10 patients. You will lead the multi-disciplinary team to deliver the Care Programme Approach review meetings.
You will maintain approval as an Approved Clinician and under Section 12 of The MHA 1983 (amended 2007).
Be involved in out of hours on call (1:11) at Tameside for General Adult Working age patients.
Maintain Good standards with CPD and Royal College of Psychiatrists requirements.
Participate and contribute to Clinical Governance, Quality Improvement and supervision trainees.
Be part of the RHSD consultant body, and to attend RHSD referrals meetings as necessary.
