Job summary

This post provides support to the relatively new Neuro-rehabilitation team for the borough of Bury. This development builds on the success of the local community stroke team and the new service will share management with the stroke team.

The team are looking for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified and experienced Neuropsychologist to join the exciting challenge of developing this new service.

Main duties of the job

As a senior neuropsychologist with substantial senior clinical experience and post-qualification training, the post-holder will provide a high level of specialist expertise with complex and or challenging cases within the newly formed Neurorehabilitation team, linked to the existing stroke team in Bury.

Taking a lead role within this small team, the post holder will provide clinical leadership and support informing the care of patients coming through the team. The Principle clinical psychologist/clinical lead will ensure the provision of a quality neuropsychology service to patients identified in the team as having complex co-morbid mental health needs and cognitive difficulties impacting on their quality of life and ability to manage following a neurological event.

A key component of the post will be to provide consultation, support and where appropriate clinical supervision to colleagues from a range of disciplines within the team, and to other psychological therapists providing support to patients open to the team. Where appropriate, the post holder will provide assessment, formulation and therapy to patients. The post holder will also provide management and clinical supervision to an assistant psychologist offering bio-psychosocial assessment and interventions with patients.

About us

Pennine Care NHS Foundation trust, covering 5 boroughs to the north and east of Greater Manchester hosts a developing number of Psychological Medicine teams and Physical Health Psychology services. The teams form a supportive network across the trust encouraging innovation for patients with long term health conditions and persistent physical symptoms as well as people who experience unusually high utilisation of healthcare services. Working closely with colleagues in the Northern Care Alliance, this neuropsychology post will provide vital support to the stroke and neurorehabilitation team in the borough of Bury.
