We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to come and join our Learning Disabilities Care Hub, working across the boroughs and providing specialist speech and language therapy interventions to service users at our new service opening in Spring. The new service is an admission avoidance service for people with a learning disability with or without autism who are experiencing a period of crisis. We will offer a 12-week in-house therapeutic programme of care with the successful candidate joining a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners. The postholder will work across the new service and our other community learning disability teams to develop and provide speech and language services through the provision of assessments and interventions. We are looking for an individual to provide speech and language therapy at assessment and consultation at an advanced level of practise, who has good SLT knowledge and skills and is able to work with people who have challenging behaviours and be proactive in the development of the new service, as well as working collaboratively with other SLT colleagues within the Care Hub. The postholder will have access to professional supervision and support from AHP Leads working within Pennine Care. The postholder will have good leadership qualities and will support other SLT staff within the care hub as required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an integral member of the learning disability multidisciplinaryteam on the new Learning Disability Crisis Response unit. The unit is an admissionavoidance service for people with a learning disability with or without autism who areexperiencing a period of crisis. The unit will provide a trauma informed model of care,with least restrictive practice for people aged 16-25 years.
The postholder will develop and provide a highly specialist Speech and LanguageTherapy service to service users who have complex communication and dysphagianeeds within the context of a multidisciplinary team. This will involve working withvulnerable and extremely challenging individuals. Assessment and interventions will bedelivered using person centred approaches within the unit and at times, across thelearning disability care hub supporting other locality community learning disability teams.
The post holder will demonstrate leadership, will monitor and maintain professionalstandards and will be involved in service development across the Learning Disability carehub including the supervision of staff. They will be expected to contribute to achieve the Trust and care hubs objectives in addition to making a positive contribution to the health ofservices users with learning disabilities.The post holder will at all times act in accordance with the HCPC standards of conduct,performance and ethics.
