Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has risen for two recovery and inclusion assistants to join the inpatient therapy team at the John Elliot Unit, an acute inpatient mental health unit at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale.

This 12 month fixed term role is a great opportunity for someone to develop skills in working closely with individuals with a range of mental health and personality disorder diagnoses within a fast-paced inpatient setting. The John Elliot Unit is expanding its existing recovery and inclusion team to improve the transition between inpatient mental health services and the community. This role will support service users in the following key areas:

  • Supporting service users to access financial support and government benefits systems (PIP, ESA, Universal credit) and budgeting loans.
  • Provide information and support to enable service users to engage in meeting education, employment and vocational needs. To include arranging initial contact and attending with the service user as required.
  • Also to be able to liaise with the relevant agencies to implement debt management plans for service users.
  • To attend and participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to multi-professional team discussions.
  • To provide information and signposting to statutory and non-statutory services in individual and group settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be supported to develop knowledge of local housing, benefits and other non-statutory systems that will enable timely discharge from the inpatient setting and contribute positively to the care and support of service users.

You will be working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, caring for patients with a wide range of needs. You will be working closely with both the nursing teams and occupational therapy teams.

The hours will be predominantly Monday to Friday however may require some weekend working.
