This is a fantastic opportunity to join our growing Psychological Medicine team in Royal Papworth Hospital in a permanent, full time 8 B post. Royal Papworth Hospital is the UK's leading heart and lung hospital, treating more than 100,000 patients each year from across the UK. Since carrying out the UK's first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation.
Whilst the Psychological Medicine Service is a Royal Papworth Hospital service, Clinical Psychologists are employed by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT), to work into the hospital teams.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join the existing Psychological Medicine MDT consisting of two consultant psychiatrists, two clinical psychologists (Band 8A and 8B) and a clinical nurse specialist.
This new role is created to improve care for Transplant and Adult Congenital Heart patients. The Clinical Psychologist will work with inpatients and outpatients and there are opportunities to contribute to national initiatives and develop service improvement and research.

To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structures observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.
To develop psychological formulations that integrate information from assessments within a coherent framework that draws upon psychological theory and evidence, and which incorporates interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors.
To develop and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients psychological problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.
To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models.
To evaluate and make decisions and treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, carers or group.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatmentand discharge of clients, and manage and maintain a caseload in line with service guidelines and under the overall co-ordination of the Lead Psychologist.
