Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and well-motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist for the Occupational Therapy team at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough.

The Cavell Centre Occupational Therapy team provide OT assessments and intervention for those admitted to acute adult inpatient wards for mental health and learning disabilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability and display a positive patient centred approach. This will be accompanied by an ability to work under pressure at times. In return we will provide the necessary support to ensure your development within your role. You will receive clinical supervision and operational manager from the Occupational Therapist Advanced Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will deliver and develop specialist OT assessments and interventions. These will include occupation focused group work, sensory strategies, reablement goals, functional assessments and focussed individualised interventions. These interventions will be based on the core principles of therapeutic use of self and our foundational approach. You will display leadership skills and the ability to supervise colleagues to ensure outstanding clinical delivery.

1. The post holder will lead on the provision of Occupational Therapy interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the principles of recovery and person-centered care.2. The Senior Occupational Therapist will work under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist Advanced Practitioner.3. Apply a high level of understanding of the impact of mental, social, sensory, emotional, cognitive, psychological, and physical issues on occupational performance, providing occupational therapy interventions and adaptations to the service users social and physical environment.

4. Work collaboratively with service users to create individualised, meaningful plans that support the achievement of Occupational Therapy goals.

5. Ensure that all modification to OT intervention plans and assessments will involve the service user and where appropriate the carer; collaboratively identifying, pursuing and reviewing goals in the context of care planning.

6. Promote equality of outcome for service users that reflect the individuality of their mental health need and those of ethnicity, gender, culture, physical health and age.

7. Promote social inclusion, physical and mental well-being using evidence-based practice.

8. Facilitate and promote the use of sensory strategies and approaches, in keeping with the principles of our sensory pathway.9. To assist the service and multi-disciplinary team, in offering a comprehensive occupation focused formulation, assessment and intervention for service users.10. To continue the ongoing development of the use of outcome measures and data collection to review clinical effectiveness.

11. To support with the monitoring and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy provision to measure progress and ensure effectiveness and positive service user outcome.

12. Provide support and leadership to a range of professional disciplines within the MDT and specific area of specialism and designated work area, through professional supervision and appraisal.

13. Undertake the supervision of Occupational Therapy students and apprentices on practice placements.
