Job summary

I'm Lorna, until recently, I was the Ward Manager of our Mulberry 2 ward. I am now the Modern Matron across our 3 Acute Adult Inpatient Wards. I am excited to advertise our new Ward Manager position for our 16-bed mixed Adult Inpatient Treatment Ward (Mulberry 2) on our Fulbourn site.

Being a Ward Manager isn't for everyone, but I have loved it. Unlike many management roles, it allows you to remain in a clinical setting with daily engagement and interaction with patients.

Our Treatment Ward is part of our innovative and ambitious model of care, known as the 3-3-3 model. Our three adult inpatient wards work collaboratively to enable patients to access the right care at the right time.

In this role you will have a unique opportunity, should you be successful, to shape and transform the day-to-day operation and provision of care on our Treatment Ward. The environment is very busy and there are always lots of opportunities to develop your practice and learning. We work very closely as a multi-disciplinary team and all decisions regarding patients care and treatment are jointly made, this includes the community teams and Crisis Home Treatment Teams. Working closely with other teams provides even greater learning opportunities. This close working allows us to provide a higher quality of care for our patients and better support them in their recovery.

Please get in touch if you are interested in joining us on our journey.

Main duties of the job

As ward manager clear communication and relationship building are key skills. We will need you to build relationships with our community and partner services to support patients in their move back to the community, work with our new Consultant Psychiatrist to establish new ways of working, support your colleagues on Mulberry 1 & 3 to introduce innovation and most importantly, to lead and develop your new team.

You are the centre of the team and will need to be the glue holding the MDT together. Your team will expect you to provide expert advice, ensure high-quality student placements, manage the roster effectively and be present to support the team and MDT. In this role you will be monitoring how effectively the ward is run. This will require you to ensure that governance is up to date, you will need to conduct audits, and will work closely with the Clinical Nurse specialist to develop and improve clinical practice on the ward. You will also have the opportunity to share your learning and developments with the wider leadership and executive team.

Finally, you will be responsible for the provision of high-quality care on the ward. We will look to you to ensure the correct support is provided for patients and their families/carers, the ward is running safely and smoothly, research and innovation is encouraged and supported, and the ward is governed appropriately.
