Job summary

We are looking to recruit a full-time Band 5 or 6 (dependent on experience) Mental Health Practitioner to work within our Personality Disorder Service. If appointed as a Band 5, this will be a developmental role with the expectation of developing into a Band 6 Mental health Practitioner, in line with appraisal and meeting of the appropriate job description and personal specification associated with a Band 6 MHP role.

This post requires that you have a Professional Health/Social Care qualification (or you will be completing shortly), and are either a mental health nurse, social worker, or occupational therapist and that you have a professional registration with the HCPC or NMC (or soon will have). Your application will not be considered if you do not have (or soon to complete) the training as above.

PDCS is part of the Exemplar project in Peterborough, working closely with the community and other services that serve Peterborough. There are a variety of areas within the team that would give valuable experience. We have varied treatment pathways from short term management of risk presentations, moderate term group treatment pathways and longer-term caseloads, including CAMH transitions, 117 cases and care package management. There are a wide range of weekly work plans from working in the duty team, facilitating groups, case load management, along with taking part in group reflection and supervision, training and education.

Main duties of the job

Clinicians are expected to work in a variety of ways including the use of dialectical behaviour therapy, mentalisation based treatment and cognitive analytic therapy principles to engage and manage severely unwell patients with personality disorders. The service uses a range of different interventions, which include individual and group therapy.

Experience of facilitating group work in a mental health or social care setting would be an advantage, along with experience of working on a 1:1 basis with service users. This may be pre- or post-training or relevant clinical placements.
