Job summary

The Carer Support Worker role is to provide valuable support for carers and significant others caring for someone with an eating disorder in the community. The role will be an integrated part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and you will work closely with practitioners within NCEDS.

Our eating disorder services are expanding and developing exciting new pathways to improve the experience of patients and carers.

We are looking for committed and passionate staff to share our vison and this job opportunity will suit someone who is looking to work part time.

Please note - this role is NOT a carer role but is a Carer Support Worker. Applicants should read the advert details AND person specification in full before applying.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of our Team, you will play a vital role in supporting our carers, families, and significant others to allow carers mental health and resilience to be optimised by offering support, guidance and signposting to other agencies for longer term support. You will have responsibility for carrying out carer support requirements and co facilitating our carers groups.

The support worker will recognise the emotional impact on the carer and the advantage of a partnership approach with professional carers to provide a person-centred collaborative approach.

They will empower, educate and support families, partners, carers friends and wider support network to effectively support their loved one suffering from an eating disorder.

  • To work within the NCEDS eating disorder teams to deliver carer support within the service in a consistent way
  • To carry out carer support requirements.
  • To offer support and advice to carers of those with a moderate to severe eating disorder, in a community setting, under the supervision of a senior team member.
  • To support new and existing support workers to be inducted into their role, recognise the requirements and parameters of their role, and engage in group supervision.
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with statutory, independent and voluntary agencies to support people in their carer experience
  • Maintain adequate records as required by existing procedures, entering appropriate details on held data base as necessary
  • Participate in regular planning and review meetings with the care coordinator, MDT and Team manager.
  • Support carers to gain access to resources including benefits and welfare rights, employment and legal rights by directing to practical support, advice and information

Essential

  • NVQ level 4 or NVQ Level 3 plus training to diploma level or equivalent experience
  • Good general education

Desirable

  • Training in mental health or social care
  • Learning in group work delivery and supervision

  • Experience of working with carers or volunteers
  • Experience in working without direct supervision or instruction

  • Previous work with people with serious mental distress
