The Community Long Term Team , Peterborough City Council is working alongside CPFT to recruit to a Lead Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) for adult learning disability services in Peterborough. The CLTT aim to ensure the assessment and provision of person centred specialist health and social care services that promote an individual's right to choice, independence, health and wellbeing in line with their assessed needs and in a way that enables them to reach their full potential.
You will have developed experience relevant to working within a community based multi-disciplinary team . You will work as an autonomous practitioner and manage a specialist case load providing assessment and interventions in relation to the Speech and Language needs of adults with a learning disability. You will be responsible for managing the SLT service, other SLTs, Assistants and Students. There is the opportunity for some home/remote working within this post.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be Speech and Language Therapy Lead for Peterborough providing day to day operational management support across the service.
- This includes responsibility for service delivery and standards within Individuals homes and community settings .
- S/he will be a highly skilled practitioner with highly developed specialist clinical skills in a relevant area of expertise and will be responsible for the independent management of a small clinical caseload of adults, within their specialism.
- The client group is adults who have a diagnosis of a learning disability and autism .
- S/he will assume delegated responsibility for service provision, being aware of national and local initiatives, and will initiate and develop standards and policy within the area of specialist, providing the lead for the whole service and interagency working.

- To independently manage a highly specialist caseload of adults with a diagnosis of a learning disability and autism who have speech, language and communication difficulties including complex cases. This caseload routinely requires multi-agency case management.
- To lead the implementation of a countywide model for specialist areas.
- To undertake a range of assessments, both standardised and non-standardised, taking account of medical, social and educational factors, which combine with highly specialist theoretical knowledge and lead to differential diagnosis.
- To plan, deliver and evaluate intervention programmes following professional guidelines and agreed service standards.
- As part of that process to plan appropriate long term and short-term goals working towards discharge
- To undertake administrative duties connected with caseload including maintenance of case notes and provision of written reports, following service standards.

- To make onward referral as appropriate.

- To identify any variations on service delivery or demands and inform the Local Authority lead of the likely impact on the service
- As team leader, to offer flexible short term support for service shortfalls e.g. cover for staff vacancies for high need cases.
