CASUS Senior Substance Misuse Practitioner / Nurse

1. To work as an integral member of the CASUS team, using AMBIT approach
2. Adolescent Mentalization Based Integrative Therapy - with young people and families, to undertake comprehensive assessment of substance use, risk and needs.
3. To plan, implement and evaluate packages of care for young people to address their identified substance use needs.
4. To provide substance specific interventions such as information, advice, psychoeducation, reduction planning, harm reduction advice and relapse prevention.
5. To liaise and formulate care closely with other individuals and organisations that form part of the network that is involved with a young person and family such as Childrens Services Locality teams, Social Care teams, Education providers, Youth Offending Service, CAMH, Primary Care, third sector agencies.
6. To participate in working collaboratively with other Trust services and external agencies to provide seamless care for service users.
7. To promote the teams implementation of the AMBIT approach through gained mentalization based expertise, practice and role modelling.
8. To provide a range of evidenced based specialist therapeutic interventions, such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural interventions, Systemic Family interventions and solution focused interventions.
9. To deliver interventions in CPFT settings, education, community, other health settings and at home.
10. To deliver targeted and specialists substance misuse interventions to identified individuals and groups of young people.
11. To promote the wider addressing of substance misuse needs of young people by providing support, consultation and training to the childrens services workforce.
12. To participate in and deliver team clinical supervision processes as agreed by the Clinical Lead and Team Manager and in line with the CPFT policy.
13. Participate in Team, Trust and Commissioner audits, with particular priority for service user feedback and service evaluation processes in conjunction with Clinical Lead and Team Manager.
14. To attend team meetings, other meetings and training as required and agreed with team leader.
15. To be responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards service users, carers, colleagues and other agencies, at all times.
16. To ensure that accurate and timely written records are kept which comply with the Trust policy and professional bodys guidance, reporting on any issues as appropriate.
17. To provide formal and informal training to Substance Misuse Practitioners, Students and Visitors to the team in areas such as AMBIT, co morbidity and substance misuse
18. To understand the teams compliance with service performance reporting requirements to PHE, CQC and other commissioners/authorities.
19. To be a key person in the development and delivery of a new CASUS pathway to support young people who are affected by the substance use of a parent/carer in close liaison with CGL (the adult substance use service in Cambridgeshire)
20. To work with the Team Manager to ensure satisfactory day-to-day management of the team in the community and youth offending settings and acting on behalf of and to deputise, as directed and in the Team Manager absence.
21. To undertake teaching sessions/being an assessor/sign off mentor as appropriate to students to attain appropriate qualifications.
22. To work within their professional framework commensurate with their level of knowledge and competence and to act accordingly within their sphere of responsibility.

For Registered Nurses

1. To provide nursing interventions to support the initiation, management and monitoring of substitute prescribing and detoxification treatment, overdose and Blood Borne Virus interventions including Hepatitis B vaccinations.
2. To be responsible for the safe custody, administration and monitoring of medicines in accordance with all medicine policies and ensure compliance is maintained.
3. To contribute to comprehensive mental health assessments and mental health interventions, as agreed with Clinical Lead, Team Manager and Senior Substance Misuse Practitioners/ Nurses

Education / Qualifications

Essential

• A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following at graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological therapy.
• Training in an evidence based therapeutic intervention recommended by NICE Guidelines relevant to Substance Misuse/ CAMHS, i.e. CBT, DBT, Systemic Therapy,
• Motivational Interviewing Training in mentalization based interventions such as AMBIT, MBT-F, MBT-A

Desirable

• Training in family systems theory and interventions
• Mentorship qualification for registered discipline

Experience

Essential

• Post-qualification experience in assessment and treatment of substance misuse in children and adolescents
• Post-qualification experience in assessment and treatment of children and adolescents and their families using evidence-based therapeutic intervention recommended by NICE Guidelines relevant to children's mental health or social care.
• Experience of multidisciplinary working, multi-agency working, and working with families
• Experience of audit systems at service user, team and organisational level.

• Experience of group work for children and adolescents.
• Supervision and Appraisal delivery to others.

• Well-developed skills and the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information, including contentious and highly distressing information, to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance, including regular supervision, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour. To provide this to other team members.
• Ability to exercise appropriate levels of self-care and to monitor own state, recognising when it is necessary to take active steps to maintain fitness to practice. To provide this to other team members.
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Motivated towards personal and professional development with a strong CPD record.

Knowledge & Understanding

• Sound knowledge of safeguarding processes for children and vulnerable adults.

• Sound knowledge of AMBIT or other mentalization based interventions
• Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group.
