Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a highly regarded and established team based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital Liaison Psychiatry Team.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist or Social Worker to join our Psychiatric Liaison Team.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience of working with older adults.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the delivery of a high-quality Liaison Psychiatry Service within Hinchingbrooke Hospital in keeping with the visions and values of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

This post is part of the Liaison Service at Hinchingbrooke Hospital whichhas close links with the broader mental health services provided by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

There are wide-ranging opportunities for training and development both within CPFT and Liaison Psychiatry.

  • To conduct Biopsychosocial and risk assessments for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department with mental health problems and admitted to inpatient wards at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
  • Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the assertive management andassessment and care of patients presenting with mental health problems.
  • Ensure that care is based on the assessment of care needs, and includes a thorough risk assessment and risk management plan.
  • Ensure good communication with other members of the Liaison Psychiatry Service as well as general hospital staff about changes in care plans.
  • To liaise with other agencies caring for patients, including community mental health teams and GPs to provide clear plans for all patients, particularly frequent attending or high risk patients.
  • Engage in Liaison Psychiatry Service educational and training events to fulfil requirements of clinical governance.
  • To provide support and expert advice to colleagues involved in the care of patients with mental health problems and to develop systems to ensure that this support is available in a range of ways.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and other statutory regulations are observed and implemented within a medical setting.
  • Disseminate relevant research via training and publication and advise others on the implications for practice of research findings.
  • Identify and be responsive to the diverse cultural, social and spiritual needs of all patients.
  • Identify and intervene proactively in situations that contribute to an unsafe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
