Job summary

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Specialty Doctor to join theCambridgeshire and Peterborough Community Eating Disorder Service.

The Eating disorder service (EDS) was established in 2004. It is part of the Adult division within CPFT. It offers treatment for patients age 18 years and older with moderate to severe eating disorders registered with GP practices in the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG.

We will be offering intensive outreach community-based interventions. We are developing a robust pathway with acute hospitals in order to facilitate timely safe access to medical wards for our patients. This will provide the opportunity for liaison with physicians and acute care teams.

Opportunities to develop skills will include

This is a 1.0 WTE Specialty Doctor post to work within the specialist multidisciplinary team and share responsibility for outpatients in the community eating disorder service for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough alongside the current 0.8 WTE Community Consultant and 0.5 WTE salaried General Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

Key Tasks

  • To work with the specialist multidisciplinary team and share responsibility with them for day-to-day management of the service.
  • To Participate in the medical monitoring pathway (to ensure safe and effective medical monitoring of community patients suffering from a severe or enduring eating disorder).
  • To participate in the acute pathway
  • To participate in assessment clinics
  • To do specific reviews of patients (medication review)
  • To provide support to the community staff and junior colleagues
  • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and other disciplines
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit and research.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD). To attend all relevant mandatory training as and when required to do so.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This Specialty Doctor post is located at Addenbrookes hospital S3 outpatients. The post holder will work with the Consultant Psychiatrist and the salaried GP primarily to provide medical input to the community within Cambridgeshire. This post can be done remotely with some in person presence at clinics.

The post holder will:
  • Be working with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Attend team meetings and routine handovers/ catch up meetings
  • Provide the medical input and support to the community team and junior colleagues
  • Work within the medical monitoring team with the salaried GP, CNS, HCA, Consultant Psychiatrist
    • To provide an assessment of physical risks as part of the EDS multi-disciplinary assessment team.
    • To contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, care planning, clinical reports and referral to other appropriate agencies/services.
    • To provide feedback to patients and appropriate professionals regarding physical health assessment related to eating disorders and medical monitoring.
    • To provide health education advice for clients following the medical assessment / review.
    • To share the monitoring of the eating disorder (Bloods and physical observation) during clinics or home visits)
    • Check results of bloods done in house + take any required actions in a timely manner.
    • To work with Primary care and Check results + take any required actions for patients monitored at the surgery by trained HCAs.
    • To provide medical treatment recommendations for patients who meet the Eating Disorder Service treatment criteria. To prescribe medication related to eating disorders (mainly supplements) for High Risk patients monitored in house.
    • To refer to appropriate agencies for further medical assessment / treatments, as necessary. This can be a referral to hospital if patient needs urgent treatment on medical ward.
  • To participate in the acute pathway (assessing / reviewing patients while they are on medical wards in CUH or NWAFT hospitals).
  • To be responsible for a daily advice line for GPs from 12 to 2 pm (To be shared with GPs / other psychiatrists)
  • To participate in assessment clinics
  • To do specific reviews of patients (medication review)
  • Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, and other disciplines. Actively participate in local and trust wide educational activities.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit and research.
