Job summary

The Senior Specialist Physical Health Nurse will supervise monitoring of physical health consequences of eating disorders within the Adult Eating Disorders Service and work in collaboration with AEDS doctors and General Practice.

This role involves coordinating physical monitoring clinics in S3 outpatients, home visits by support staff and interpreting and filtering blood results for the doctor's attention.

The post holder will work closely with the speciality doctor for medical monitoring and the team's GP.

Main duties of the job

The specialist nurse will inform patients and carers of abnormal blood results and follows the medical monitoring protocol to guide appropriate action on these results. The post holder will alert the medical team about results that need immediate medical intervention.

The post holder will lead and supervise the support staff delivering the physical observations and phlebotomy clinics. Ideally, the candidate will have clinical skills including phlebotomy, interpreting blood results and experience interpreting DEXA scans and other relevant investigations.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are required to work in this field with patients who may be reluctant or nervous to attend clinics.

This job will involve considerable amounts of multiagency working with the wider professional network around the patient but limited to their physical health needs. It is expected that the post holder can complete reports to a high standard as well as good quality referrals to external agencies.
