We provide a community dietetic service across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. This role includes clinics, home visits, patient and staff education sessions and line management.
Previous diabetes experience is essential and additional development and support will be available.
The successful person will be joining our dietetic department of 35 staff with good admin support. We provide training for student dietitians.
To apply you have to be registered as a dietitian with the Health Care professions Council.
Main duties of the job
- To deliver a highly specialist diabetes role in the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT)
- To work as a dietetic practitioner within uni-professional and multi-professional team environments with regular supervision
- To assess and treat a case load of patients in line with the Model and Process for Dietetic Consultations and maintain associated records
- Deliver a high standard of dietetic care in both primary and, if required, secondary care settings
- To deliver education and training sessions related to Diabetes
- To supervise or monitor the work of assistants, students or other dietetic staff
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work and workload
- To lead the diabetes team providing leadership and management supervision, appraisal of and recruitment of staff.

- To provide a highly specialist dietetic service in the community to a wide variety of complex adult clients with diabetes, including those with DKA, insulin adjustment, pump therapy and advising on BM monitoring
- To nutritionally diagnose, give appropriate advice and formulate treatment plans when consulting with patients, relatives and carers, taking into account factors such as the clients presenting condition, past medical history, social considerations and medication
- To maintain accurate records of all patient consultations and related work carried out at each clinical session, including computerised data collection.
- To undertake systematic literature reviews and critically appraise the evidence identified and identify implications for practice
- To ensure evidence based, auditable dietetic diabetes standards and protocols are in place, developing and updating as necessary
- To develop and update written resources, for example diet sheets and patient advice leaflets
- To lead projects dealing with new ways of working in nutrition and diabetes, taking into account national and local initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and development
- To act as a point of reference for dietetic colleagues and other health professionals with respect to nutrition and diabetes, giving advice, training and supporting their clinical practice
- To liaise with other health professionals and managers on issues regarding service development and the clinical management of patients
- To prepare and give presentations, adapting complex information to a wide range of audiences. Including the delivery of structured programmes of education e.g. DESMOND
- Liaise with members of the diabetes MDT to provide coordinated care
- To actively manage the risk and benefits of their interventions within the context of the MDT care
- To manage highly complex ethical issues, dilemmas and conflicts and support others to manage these areas
- To actively contribute to specialist groups and multi-professional networks
- To work within the dietetic departmental clinical standards and evidence based practice and within professional boundaries
