Ward Sister/Charge Nurse

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly motivated Band 7 Ward Sister or Charge Nurse to join our Oncology Wards at University College London Hospital. You should be a skilled Oncology nurse with a passion for leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a genuine enthusiasm in caring for patients and creating an environment that facilitates the best patient and staff experience.

This post would include leading and managing the nursing team to provide the highest standard of care and maintaining a culture of learning, development, improvement and teamworking.

At UCLH we provide highly specialised cancer care for oncology patients with a wide range of solid tumours, we are one of two cancer centres in London offering specialised care to sarcoma patients.

What we do:Our inpatient unit provides a variety of treatments including:o Cytotoxic chemotherapyo Trial treatmentso Biological therapieso Radiotherapyo Brachytherapyo Radioisotope treatmentso Palliative care including complex symptom management end of life care

We have 52 Oncology inpatient beds across T13 and T16S and a Cancer Assessment Unit offering rapid assessment and treatment for up to 6 patients.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include but are not limited to:o Visible leadership of the Oncology Ward Nursing teamo Ensuring provision of high-quality Oncology nursing careo Ensuring a safe environment that meets organisation requirements for quality and safety such as infection control.o Staff management:o Roster managemento HR processeso Recruitment and retentiono Team developmento Staff recognitiono Implementation of innovations in nursing care to ensure the team is fit to meet developments in Oncology Nursing Care.o Ensuring highest standard of patient and staff experience.o Management of local governance process - incident, risk and complaint management.o Responsibility for completion of ward audit processeso Budget management.o Work with the MDT and the wider Cancer Division team to support the delivery of the highest standard of care.o To collaborate with Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses across the organisation to deliver innovations to nursing care and leadership.
