Job summary
The Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated Margaret Spittle Clinical Research Fellow for a fixed term of 12 months from September/ October 2025. The successful candidate will be joining the largest Urology Department in the UK. We are a highly specialist department seeing referrals from across the UK and abroad as well as being a centre for excellence and research.
The successful candidate will work in the Andrology Department with a focus on general andrology and genital cancers under the supervision of Professor Asif Muneer. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in providing pioneering new treatments and play a key role in ensuring excellent care for patients under the care of the department.
The clinical fellows rotate to increase their experience, gaining good access to both primary and revision implants, surgery for Peyronie's disease, surgical sperm retrieval, microsurgery, surgical treatment for penile and testicular cancer.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
This is a joint research and clinical fellowship under the supervision of Professor Asif Muneer providing an opportunity to deliver a cancer research project as well as gain clinical experience in general andrology. Also to provide a safe and effective service for patients under the supervision of the andrology team. Clinical duties include attending theatre lists, undertaking outpatient clinics and other clinical activities related to the department including telephone clinics, MDT attendance and audit. There is an expectation to help with the management of inpatients and emergencies. Experience in penoscrotal surgery and penile prosthesis surgery will be part of the experience gained.
ResearchThe research component is part clinical and part basic science with protected time set aside. The clinical component focuses on genital cancer research and the basic science component related to penile cancer molecular biology using tissue from a UCLH/UCL biobank.
