Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated ST1-2Trust Grade Doctor (SHO Level) to join the UCLH Comprehensive Stroke Service. Based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) in Queen Square and UCH on Euston Road, London, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain extensive experience in one of the UK's largest stroke services.

As a Stroke Fellow, you will rotate through core and specialist stroke roles, participate in governance and teaching programs, and work within a 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service and hyperacute stroke unit. You will also engage in a variety of multidisciplinary teams and contribute to pre-hospital stroke video triage.

This position provides excellent training in the management of stroke across all stages of care, with ample opportunities for service development and clinical research. You will receive the same educational supervision as other stroke SHO's with NTNs and have the chance to observe and learn from a broad range of specialist neurological clinics.

NHNN is internationally recognized for its clinical care and research, offering comprehensive care for a wide range of neurological conditions. The role includes daily teaching opportunities and the chance to work closely with experts in various neurological fields.

See below for overview of the Stroke Fellow role's clinical, educational, and research responsibilities within a leading stroke service.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Rotations:Engage in core and specialist stroke roles, including hyperacute and acute stroke units, general and specialist stroke clinics, and the 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service. Participate in pre-hospital video triage and assessment for potential stroke cases in north London.

Patient Care:Deliver comprehensive care at all stages of stroke management, from pre-hospital to post-hospital. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams such as cardiology, neurosurgery, and haematology for integrated stroke care.

Governance and Quality Improvement:Involve in clinical governance activities like audits, case reviews, and quality improvement projects to enhance stroke care services.

Teaching and Education:Engage in the teaching program, including grand rounds, bedside teaching, and tutorials. Participate in weekly protected teaching sessions related to the stroke curriculum.

Research and Development:Support clinical research at the NIHR-designated hyperacute stroke research center. Contribute to service development initiatives to improve stroke care delivery.

Supervision and Mentorship:Receive supervision and mentoring similar to stroke SHO's with NTNs. Mentor junior doctors and medical students within the stroke service.

Collaboration with Neurology Services:Collaborate with the neurology team at NHNN, gaining experience in specialist neurological clinics and the Neuro-SDEC model.
