Job summary
Applications are invited for a 0.5FTE clinical research fellow (CRF), 0.5 FTE Senior Neonatal Resident, for 24 months at SPR grade to support the local recruitment of babies with moderate-severe hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) to the ACUMEN Study. The ACUMEN study is a Phase I First in Human (FIH) trial to assess the safety and "recommended phase 2 dose" of melatonin as a potential neuroprotective therapy for babies with HIE. The Chief Investigator is Professor Nikki Robertson, who leads this MRC-funded study with the support of the Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit at UCL.
While supporting the ACUMEN study at 0.5FTE, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with CRFs at the other ACUMEN-recruiting sites in the UK, Ireland and Australia. These sites include Manchester University NHS Trust, Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Dublin (Coombe and Rotunda Hospitals), University College Cork, Melbourne (Monash University) and Adelaide (Flinders University). Main duties of the job
It is anticipated that the successful applicant will work clinically on the NICU rota for the remaining 0.5FTE at UCLH. The UCLH Neonatal unit is the primary referral centre for neonatal intensive care (a level 3 unit with 21 ITU and HDU cots) for the North Central London Perinatal Network and provides a full range of intensive care for the sickest and most vulnerable babies. UCLH specialises in neonatal neurocritical care and is a regional centre for therapeutic hypothermia (cooling). UCLH works in partnership with the UCLH Fetal Medicine Unit, a regional and international referral centre for complex pregnancies, and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), specialist paediatric hospital, to collaboratively care for babies with complex conditions.
UCLH's neonatal unit has been rated in the GMC survey as one of the top London Hospitals for neonatal training in 2017 and is consistently rated as "one of the best placements ever" by doctors. We have an excellent track record of helping doctors get appointed to specialty and sub-specialty training programmes.
Successful applicants will benefit from the Unit's extensive teaching programme and the excellent clinical experience on offer. All candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration.
