Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Locum Consultant Neurologist to join the Movement Disorders and the Unit of Functional Neurosurgery teams at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery provides tertiary level care in a wide spectrum of neurological and neurosurgical disease, with a regional, national and international referral base. The hospital is co-located with the Institute of Neurology in Queen Square, London WC1. These institutions share the common aim of promoting research, clinical care and teaching in neuroscience and its allied scientific and clinical disciplines.

Main duties of the job
The main duty of the role is to deliver specialist care for patients with Parkinson's disease, tremor, dystonia and other movement disorders. Some of these patients will be candidate to advanced treatment in particular deep brain stimulation or follow up of this treatment. Therefore postholder must be experienced in the management of patients treated with deep brain stimulation. The role will involve 2 outpatient clinics per week, a multidisciplinary clinic and day case sessions.
The appointee will have an overriding duty of care to patients and are expected to comply fully with best practice standards, including Trust policies for personal and patient safety and clinical governance. This will include participating in clinical audit and review of outcomes, working towards achievement of national and local performance management targets, complying with risk management policies, and participating in the consultant appraisal process. The post-holder is expected to take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, morbidity and mortality, incident reporting, review of complaints, risk management and Evidence-Based Practice
