We have an exciting opportunity to be part of our Medical Examiner service. We are recruiting for a part time Medical Examiner Officer to join the Trust as part of the Medical Examiner system in England and Wales. The aim of this service is to be able to scrutinise deaths within acute hospitals, London Borough of Camden (including nursing homes and hospices) and three other specialist trusts (Great Ormond Street Hospital, Royal Marsden Hospital, and Moorfields Hospital).Medical Examiner Officers (MEO) are the backbone of the service and support the Medical Examiners (ME) in their role of independently scrutinising deaths and ensuring that the ME service runs smoothly and effectively.
Main duties of the job
You will work with the Lead ME but will support all MEs assisting in a broad range of issues including being proactive in contacting relatives on behalf of the medical examiner of deceased patients before the death certificate is issued to establish if they have any concerns or questions about the death, and working with healthcare professionals and coroner and registration services, GP's to ensure that the work of the medical examiner's office is completed in a timely, efficient and sensitive mannerYou will manage information to ensure internal and external qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators are managed and achieved and work closely with the mortuary team, coronal and registrar services to provide the best experience for bereaved families.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and demonstrate a high level of tact and diplomacy due to the sensitive nature of the role. You will be joining an existing close and friendly team that works collaboratively and has a strong 'can do' attitude.
Candidates will be expected to attend a face to face/online RC Path MEO training day (dependent on course availability) within six months.
