Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an Obstetric Medicine Clinical Fellow to the Maternal Medicine Network in North Central London (NCL). This post will be based at the maternal medicine centre, University College London Hospital (UCLH) and will work with the Consultant Obstetricians, Consultant Obstetric Physicians, and Maternal Medicine Midwives within the NCL Maternal Medicine Network.

The post-holder will be responsible for establishing and delivering high-quality care to pregnant women with medical disorders across NCL hospitals before, during and after their pregnancy. The delivery of care will be guided by the National Service Specification for Maternal Medicine Networks.

The post holder will support the implementation of effective care pathways for pregnant women and birthing for those with complex medical conditions across the NCL Maternal Medicine Network.

Main duties of the job

There will be a key focus on addressing inequalities in all aspects of care. They will provide and co-ordinate expert and high-quality professional advice, to support and facilitate the delivery of high-quality maternal medicine services in line with the agreed shared priorities for the NCL Network.

The clinical fellow will work as part of the UCLH maternal medicine team and the NCL maternal medicine network. The expected hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday 0800-1700 although there can be flexibility on these timings.

This post does not include any out-of-hours commitments.

Clinical duties will include being a key part of the obstetric medicine team, attending weekly specialty clinics, reviewing inpatients and emergency referrals, triaging and managing referrals from across the NCL maternal medicine network. This a unique opportunity for a post FY2 doctor to work within a maternal medicine team in a well-supported role, working closely with consultant obstetricians, obstetric physicians and specialist midwives as well as the wider team. They will gain experience in the expert management of a wide range of medical conditions and complications in pregnancy.

This post would be suited to someone who has career aspirations to be involved in maternal medicine in the future and will provide a number of opportunities for teaching, quality improvement and CV development.
