Job summary
The Band 7 Peripheral Nerve Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will provide expert care and support to patients with peripheral neuropathies, including both acquired (e.g., inflammatory, nutritional, autoimmune) and hereditary conditions (e.g., Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease [CMT], Hereditary Neuropathy with Liability to Pressure Palsies [HNPP], Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy [HSN], Hereditary Motor Neuropathy [HMN], and Hereditary ATTR [HATTR] amyloidosis). Most of the job will be with hereditary neuropathies. The CNS will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes consultants, physiotherapists, clinical fellows, research nurses, and other Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) within the hospital. Collaboration with the neurogenetics nurse and inflammatory nerve nurse specialist is essential to this role.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide both face-to-face and virtual support to patients and will independently conduct telephone clinics. They will also participate in consultant-led multidisciplinary clinics to review and monitor patients' progress. The CNS will be responsible for accurately recording and interpreting patient outcome measures, as well as actively collecting and auditing data to inform service development and improvements.In addition to their clinical duties, the CNS will train and educate patients on managing their conditions, offering both medical guidance and pastoral support. They will monitor patients' blood tests, identify and manage any abnormalities, and ensure that patients receive up-to-date and relevant information regarding their medications. The CNS will perform skin biopsies weekly for diagnostic purposes.
