Job summary
University College London Hospitals (UCLH) is seeking to appoint a full time (10 PA) Consultant Haematologist in red cell disorders and general/diagnostic haematology, with a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models and excellence in education/training and research.
This postholder will work across UCLH's general haematology outpatient service and red cell inpatient and outpatient services, working with colleagues in clinical and laboratory haematology at UCLH, as well as a number of partners at other organisations. The post holder will also contribute to postgraduate education, as well as participating in relevant MDTs and facilitating patient care with referring centres.
Any Consultant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The role will involve one adult diagnostic haematology clinic per week and two adult red cell clinics. The appointee will be expected to attend the red cell MDT.The successful applicant will join the general haematology diagnostic service at UCLH and help to drive and develop this growing and important service. There are currently two weekly diagnostic clinics and an advice and guidance service for local GPs (delivered by ST3+ trainees and overseen by SIHMDS consultants), with a separate system for giving general haematology advice within the Trust. The scope of the service is widening and the post-holder would be encouraged to review this and make recommendations for potential development. The applicant will also join the red cell service at UCLH to manage the inpatient and outpatient care of patients with red cell disorders at UCLH.Attending and on call will be for the red cell service at UCLH only. This will involve care of inpatients with red cell disorders. Out of hours on call will involve care of patients with red cell disorders and may also involve out-of-hour transfusion cover, where the issue is not major haemorrhage or coagulopathy.
