Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Pharmacy Assistant to assist the Pharmacy dispensary managers with the provision of Pharmacy Services to patients and staff across all sites at UCLH.

To provide an economic, efficient and timely service following agreed departmental policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will work in pharmacy distribution and patient service areas across the trust.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities will be:

To dispense medicines in an accurate and timely manner for inpatients and outpatients as directed by senior technicians, using the pharmacy computer system and automated dispensing devices where in place.

To participate in the ward top up service and the direct distribution of IV fluids

To cover the Outpatient receptions receiving prescriptions, checking payment exemptions and taking payment where appropriate

To participate in the provision of a safe, efficient and timely pharmaceutical distribution service to all customers.

To efficiently use the pharmacy computer system to manage stock control.

To communicate effectively with a variety of support staff and customers e.g., purchasing dispensaries and ward staff

If you do not hold an NVQ Level 2 certificate in pharmacy services or equivalent, you will undertake a QCF/NVQ Level 2 and underpinning knowledge in Pharmaceutical Sciences through the Apprenticeship framework.

UCLH Pharmacy provides a comprehensive array of services with the overall aim of ensuring safe, effective and economical use of medicines throughout the Trust, and supporting education, training and research. Pharmacy is closely involved in all stages of medicines use, from negotiating contracts for the purchase of medicines through to assessing the outcomes of medicines in the clinical setting, and across all stages in-between.

The UCLH Pharmacy Department has close working relationships with the local hospital pharmacy departments at the Royal Free and The Whittington Hospitals. This relationship has resulted in centralisation of some key backroom operational services such as manufacturing, repacking and education & training, whilst focusing local clinical services directly towards improving patient care.
