Job summary
This is a North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS) role, hosted by UCLH.
The North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS) is the collective of all NHS Provider organisations within NCL working together with the local councils, Integrated Care Board (ICB), Primary Care Networks, community pharmacies, care homes and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector to form a health and social care partnership.
The NCL Medicines Optimisation Network (MON) supports the ICS in the safe, effective and economical use of medicines. Two principal cross-sector committees sit within the network; the Joint Formulary Committee (JFC) and Medicines Optimisation Board (MOB). JFC and MOB focus on promoting evidence-based medicine and providing the right care, at the right time and place, specifically related to medicines and/or pharmacy services, to help ensure best outcomes and use of resources in NCL. The NCL Shared Care Group coordinates the development of shared care guidelines and fact sheets to support the seamless transition of medicines at the interface.

Main duties of the job
To provide professional support to the NCL Joint Formulary Committee and Shared Care Group, as well as develop, implement and maintain a sector wide medicines formulary, shared care guidelines, medicines pathways and position statements.
The post is a full time maternity leave cover, on a 12 month fixed term or secondment basis.

Joint Formulary Committee
- Support the Principal Pharmacist to provide secretariat support to the Committee and manage the annual workplan.
- Undertake critical appraisal of new medicine applications, using published literature and data sources to assess efficacy, safety, place in therapy, unmet clinical need, patient convenience, budget impact and operational impact.
- Present evaluations and projects to Committee members
- Communicate outcomes to applicants and stakeholders.
- Maintain the NCL Joint Formulary website and the content of the NCL ICS Medicines Optimisation website
Shared Care Group
- Provide secretariat support to the NCL Shared Care Group
- Coordinate and support the development and review of Shared Care Guidelines, Fact Sheets and the NCL Red List
Evaluation and Research
- Contribute to NCL research and audit activity including publication of research and/or improvement initiatives.
Education and training
- Promote and provide training on critical appraisal skills and to support the adoption of the formulary, new guidelines or pathways into routine clinical practice.
The NCL Medicines Optimisation Network staff (including Joint Formulary & Medicines Optimisation pharmacists) are hosted by University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of NCL stakeholders. The offices are based at 250 Euston Road, London. Travel to other NCL sites may be required on occasion. There is an opportunity to work remotely for part of the week.
