Neurology / Stroke trust doctor ST1-2 (SHO level)
Applicants are invited for the post of ST1-2 Trust Grade (SHO Level) working at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square and/or the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy in Chalfont St Peters, Buckinghamshire. Candidates should be prepared to spend up to three months at each site.
Postholders will have the opportunity to attend the same teaching and training sessions as CMTs. However, this post is not recognised for training.
This position is to primarily start in August 2024 for 6 months. We are also accepting of applicants ahead of the February 2025 rotation. Please state your preference in the application.
Main duties of the job
NHNN
The hospital is internationally renowned as a leading centre for clinical care & research. We welcome both trainee neurologists & general medical trainees wishing to gain experience in the management of neurological disorders to inform their future practice. The hospital is closely linked to a number of leading research facilities, & trainees wishing to pursue research interests in future will be well placed to explore this.
Queen Square is minutes from Russell Square & Holborn underground stations in central London & has good transport connections to national rail & bus networks.

The centre is a national quaternary referral centre for the diagnosis & treatment of epilepsy. Job responsibilities
NHNN: SHOs rotate through weeks of inpatient ward work & time on the daycare unit. Shifts are a combination of standard hours (usually 8.30am to 5pm) & on-call shifts.
The junior doctors are based on Gowers Ward & work four long days per week (no on calls or night shifts). Depending on the working day, the start times vary between 08:00 & 09:00, & the end times vary between 18:00 & 19:00. The other day is for private study, audit, research or teaching commitments at The National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery or UCLH.
Experience
As the post holder will manage the Neurology inpatients overnight without a registrar on site (NHNN only), experience in general medicine in a UK hospital is preferred.
Teaching
There are daily opportunities to attend teaching. These include grand rounds, clinico-pathologic cases, bedside teaching & consultant-led tutorials, often by international experts. Two teaching sessions are protected: a weekly teaching session for MRCP PACES neurology & a weekly CMT teaching session tied to the curriculum & delivered by consultants.
Supervision
All trainees will have a named educational supervisor & an electronic portfolio on which to log progress.
