An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/ Psychotherapist/ Counsellor in the clinical dementia service of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job

Working in a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service in both clinical and clinical research settings. This involves providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy alongside offering advice and consultation on patients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers.

The post holder will take part in collaborative academic research and support and complement existing clinical and support services at the Dementia Research Centre.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • Honours degree in psychology or related disciplines, and a Doctorate in clinical psychology / counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS (or equivalent professional body).
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council or other relevant accreditation body (e.g. BACP, BABCP, UKCP)
  • A working knowledge of current good clinical practice, clinical governance, research governance, and recent government policies relating to health services and the impact of these policies on Clinical and Counselling Psychology, Psychotherapy and Counselling.

Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge of neurodegenerative conditions, including rarer forms of dementia and neuropsychological syndromes
  • Specialist knowledge of neuropsychological assessment techniques and psychometrics

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology/counselling psychology/psychotherapy/counselling to patients with degenerative conditions gained in training or previous employment
  • Experience of work in a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Documented evidence of CPD
  • Research, audit and evaluation experience.
