Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed HCPC-registered biomedical scientist with a specialist portfolio and a molecular pathology background, to join our busy and highly specialised Neuropathology department.

We are a leading academic and diagnostic department, providing a wide range of specialist diagnostic services to the National Hospital (NHNN) and academic and research services to UCL. The Department also receives a substantial number of specialist referrals, including advanced molecular pathology tests. The Department has seen significant recent investments into diagnostic equipment and is accredited to ISO 15189 standards.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Performing molecular pathology analysis of diagnostic surgical pathology specimens for the UCLH Trust and for national referrals.
  • Performing various complex tests in the clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory according to laboratory policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements in order to provide results of the highest level of quality to pathologists, clinicians and their patients.
  • Managing complex data sets as part of the routine molecular diagnostics

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working in partnership with a team of molecular pathology and histology biomedical scientists. The post holder will be working predominantly, but not limited to, a specialist Neuropathology laboratory with a section dedicated to molecular pathology, and interact with other members of the neuro-histology laboratory. The post holder will report to the senior molecular pathology BMS, and ultimately to the head BMS and is accountable to the Head of the Division of Neuropathology. The post has been created to maintain and expand our rapid and high-quality diagnostic service.   • Thorough knowledge of the working of NHS Clinical Pathology laboratories

Desirable

  • Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology (or working towards)
