CAR-T Clinical Fellow – Haematology

Job summary

These roles are set within the department of malignant haematology at UCLH with a focus on cellular therapy (including CAR-T) in accordance with JACIE accreditation standards and NHSE guidance. The T-cell Immunotherapy service at UCLH is undergoing significant expansion and the post-holder will be involved in the delivery of (1) licenced/NHSE CAR T-cell products; (2) the academic and commercial CAR T-cell trial portfolio and (3) a portfolio of TCR-transduced T-cell and Tumour Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) therapies for solid tumours which we hope to further cultivate and develop through the appointments.

There will be training in trial design and delivery through involvement in Tumour Management Group meetings for the academic trial portfolio alongside attendance at Site Initiation Visits for new studies. Training regarding the function of apheresis and the stem cell lab will also be provided.

Main duties of the job

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Outpatient management of patients receiving CAR-T therapy as well as providing support for patients with complications post-therapy
  • Liaising with NCCP and clinical trials team to coordinate work-up and care of patients scheduled for CAR-T and other T-cell therapies therapy
  • Liaising with district general hospitals to assist with cellular therapy patients
  • Reviewing patients who attend on an emergency basis to the haematology day unit
  • Reviewing patients in the weekly T-cell Immunotherapy clinics
  • Interaction with lab teams processing translational patient samples and interface with academic trials manufacturing team.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical degree
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
  • GMC registration and entry on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register
  • Completed core medial training or equivalent

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Clinical audit experience

Desirable

  • Undergoing or completed higher specialist training in Haematology
  • Experience in oncology
  • Experience of laboratory research
