Job summary

Participate as a member of the Staff Psychology & Welfare Service and attend all relevant meetings and mandatory and Trust training. Work to a pattern of clinical hours and in localities that support the needs of the service and staff within UCLH.Provide a consultation service providing information about liaison with local mental health services, suitability for psychological therapies, signposting, alternative treatment options and patient management of risk.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a systematic time-limited assessment and counselling / psychological therapy service to people with defined common mental health difficulties within the staff services setting.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of staff utilising the service.
  • Provide consultation to referring managers about psychological therapy aspects of patient care and a range of mental health issues.
  • When necessary, arrange onward referral of staff to other NHS and non-NHS teams and organisations in consultation with the referring GP and / or OHP within the Occupational Health Service.
  • Use analytical and judgement skills across complex presenting facts or situations in devising an appropriate response and intervention.
  • Constantly consider the role of brief clinical work and to contribute accordingly to care packages and provide advice about services and options, using local knowledge.

Essential

  • Completed a BACP approved Diploma in Counselling.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of clients over the age of 16 years presenting with mild to moderate severity of common mental health problems.
  • Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

  • Post-qualification training in one or more compliant modalities e.g. DIT, IPT, Counselling for Depression, CFT, ACT, EMDR, BCT or CBT.
  • NHS experience in the past 6 months.
