UCLH has created an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced senior legal professional to join our team and work with the Board and senior leadership team to develop an executive corporate legal function that can support the delivery of the Trust's strategic ambitions.

Main duties of the job

As the UCLH general counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice to the Board and senior leadership teams and act as a central point of contact for in-house legal provision, as well as ensuring that appropriate arrangements are in place for seeking external legal advice where appropriate. You will manage the legal functions of the Trust as a portfolio*, ensuring they are operating smoothly, that access is managed, and services are provided within an appropriate framework.

You will build relationships with key stakeholders and teams across the Trust and provide high quality legal support and advice in a number of areas, including contract review and negotiation, key aspects of healthcare law, strategic partnership agreements with national and international partners, collaboration agreements, intellectual property, employment law and drafting MOUs/HOTs.

You will develop and maintain a financial plan that identifies Trust-wide cost savings or invest to save schemes and work with teams and external suppliers to ensure best value for money advice within budget.

  • Qualified solicitor (7+ years PQE (post-qualifying experience)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Entitled to practise in England and Wales under the rules of the Law Society or Bar Council

  • Highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Including the ability to advise, influence and communicate effectively at all levels within the Trust, as well as externally
