Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a registered Midwife or Nurse who will co-ordinate the NIPE (Newborn Infant Physical Examination) service at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Maternity Unit UCLH, in line with the National Screening standards. The NIPE Practitioner will be responsible for the management and delivery of the NIPE programme and will provide leadership, clinical expertise, and support within all Maternity clinical areas where NIPE is carried out.

The NIPE Lead will monitor day-to-day compliance with the NIPE programme standards including monitoring the S4N failsafe for all babies born at this unit or returning to our catchment area to ensure the NIPE is undertaken within 72 hours of birth.

Close liaison with the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator is essential so that appropriate monitoring and reporting are undertaken for the Trust. The post holder is responsible for the collection and presentation of the KPI data and will update the National screening programme database as required and participate in all relevant screening meetings held within the MDT. Working flexibly within the team is integral to individual professional development and service provision. The post holder may be asked to work throughout the maternity unit in areas other than the MCU Postnatal ward/NIPE clinic as required to support staff and service delivery.
