Job summary
The Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner has a strong knowledge and experience in anaesthetics with an excellent understanding of the perioperative needs of patients and customers, and a wide knowledge of anaesthetic practices and procedures.
You must be organised, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with experience of supervising a multi-disciplinary team providing the highest standard of patient care across a varied caseload.
You must be motivated and enthusiastic with a passion for high quality patient care, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Working as a Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner you will be required to function effectively as a leader of the peri-operative team to ensure the provision of an efficient and high quality surgical service.
Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment, as well as promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC.
Evidence of leading teams, engagement in recruitment and retention activities and supervising students / supporting programmes of learning would be an advantage
Main duties of the job
As a senior anaesthetic practitioner, you will be responsible for helping and offering support for patients undergoing surgery. You will prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous equipment and devices that safely secure the patient's airway during anaesthesia.
You will also be responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without direct supervision, and expected to supervise qualified and unqualified staff
In the absence of the Lead Practitioner you will have continuing responsibility for the management of the Theatre and Anaesthesia department, including the deployment of staff and the use of equipment and resources.
You will devise, implement and assess individualised care plans for a wide and diverse patient group, and promoting best evidence-based practice. You will supervise and support members of the anaesthetic team ensuring that all staff are able to provide the highest standard of care.
In addition you must have:
HCPC/NMC registered ODP or Nurse (with appropriate and accredited post-graduate anaesthetic module/course)
Extensive knowledge of patient care / needs in the theatre environment
Extensive experience in anaesthetics
Evidence of leading a team within a clinical environment
Proven experience of managing change within a clinical setting
A recognised mentor qualification and experience of supporting learners would be advantageous.
