Please note: Band 7 in line with Annex 21 for a two year programme (70% pay of band 7 in year one and 75% pay of band 7 in year 2).
This is an exciting opportunity to join this prestigious full-time two-year Training course at UCLH in partnership with University College London (UCL) to develop academic and professional skills in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine. The post holder will work as a supervised trainee subject to competency training for ultrasound scanning for pregnant women at 11-14 weeks gestation, anomaly scans and fetal well-being assessments in the Ultrasound Screening Unit (USU) at UCLH. The job is split between two years; the first year will be spent as a 'junior' trainee and following successful completion of the training competencies, will progress to a 'senior' position in the second year. 'Senior' trainees will be required to perform obstetric ultrasound and contribute to training the 'juniors'. There will also be opportunities for training and development in our Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, Antenatal Clinic and Labour Ward. The trainee's will be paid under annex 21 of Agenda for Change.
Main duties of the job
This programme is open only to candidates who successfully apply to the associated Master (MSc) programme in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine developed by UCL in collaboration with UCLH. The candidate is expected to apply to the MSc at UCL and pay for the annual student fee according with the country of origin (details to be available soon). The MSC and the employment at UCLH are joint. Candidates move from junior (1styear) to senior (2ndyear) by passing their first year competencies as reviewed between UCLH and UCL. Clinical competencies are reviewed throughout the course. The candidates UCLH employment is based on compliance with continuing and completing the UCL programme. Individuals are responsible for paying their tuition fees for the duration of the course. There will be some sharing of information between UCL and UCLH to meet the above-mentioned criteria.
About us
The applicant will work at UCLH and will be based in the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing. During the first year the applicant will work at the Ultrasound Screening Unit (USU) of the Integrated Antenatal Service, providing the scanning service for routine ultrasound antenatal assessment in the three trimesters. During the second year the candidate will continue to scan in the USU but will be involved in training and care in fetal medicine and other specialist clinics. Time dedicated for education, training and research will be included in the day time working pattern of 37.5 hours per week. There is educational time allocated within employment hours (37.5). Study time in addition to this will be required and is in an individual's own time. The contract is based on annex 21 of agenda for change terms and conditions.
