An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Physiotherapist to come and work in our award winning Post-Covid and Respiratory Outpatient Physiotherapy Services. This post is fixed term nine months as maternity leave cover.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 6 or 7 physiotherapist to join our friendly and high performing team which provides Physiotherapy to both our Post-Covid and Respiratory Outpatient Physiotherapy services. The post holder would provide assessment in our cutting edge post covid clinic, and Respiratory Physiotherapy treatment to people with breathing pattern disorder and chronic lung disease. The post holder would have the opportunity to lead and contribute to innovative service development projects, be involved in research and support the development of our growing team. This role includes the opportunity to work closely with community partners to further develop post Covid rehabilitation pathways.

A successful candidate will be a dynamic and motivated Physiotherapist who can provide decisive and effective therapy input and can demonstrate leadership qualities, effective communication skills and a flexible approach when working under pressure. You will need appropriate NHS experience at a Band 6 level.

Main duties of the job

Duties include:

  • Responsible for providing clinical leadership, delivery and co-ordination of therapy services within Respiratory Outpatient Physiotherapy. This requires working autonomously and incorporating evidenced-based practice in the management of patient care.
  • To provide highly specialised assessment and treatment of outpatients with respiratory symptoms, chronic lung disease and post covid syndrome
  • To provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives to ensure optimum delivery of care.
  • To be responsible for daily operational activities and planning, evaluation and development of the team in conjunction with the Clinical Lead.
  • To provide clinical leadership and supervision for junior staff within the wider therapy team.
  • Line manage and supervise therapy staff and students, while leading on and complying with professional and departmental standards of practice.
  • The post holder is responsible for induction, training and supervision of junior staff, students and support staff on rotation in the Team.
  • To provide cover within the therapy department during periods of staff absence.
  • To provide clinical leadership to staff within the wider acute therapy service when required due to staff absence.

  • To provide respiratory physiotherapy assessment and treatment for adults referred to the integrated post Covid service, in clinic and outpatient settings.
  • To take a lead role in the delivery and co-ordination of the Therapy Team in the post Covid service . This requires working autonomously and incorporating evidenced-based practice in the management of patient care.
  • To work within a multi-disciplinary team and liaise appropriately members of the multidisciplinary integrated post covid team and service users.
  • To provide detailed specialist assessment, advice, education and training to respiratory outpatients and post covid patients along with their carers.
  • To develop an integrated service for patients suffering with long lasting complex symptoms in liaison with seniors and peers within the division.
  • To form an important part of the multi-disciplinary team assessing patients with post covid syndrome. These patients may have one (or more) of three key areas for therapy input: Breathing pattern retraining, fatigue management, support with returning to physical activity. Assessment is as part of a busy MDT clinic. Those requiring ongoing therapy treatment under the care of UCLH will be seen in the Respiratory Outpatient Therapy Service.
  • To complete assessments of patients which include standardised outcome measures.
  • To input into the overall assessment of post covid patients, recording the assessment on our electronic health record and to attend a weekly MDT meeting to feedback on these and other patients.
  • To provide Outpatients with an average of 4-6 follow up sessions lasting 45 minutes per session. Treatments will focus around breathing pattern retraining and fatigue management.
  • To liaise with community therapy services on patient care and provide specialist support/ training on breathing pattern disorder.
  • To share learning and new understanding of the therapy management of post Covid syndrome
  • To actively participate in networks and specialist interest groups.
