Job summary

As a Senior Data Scientist at the London Ambulance Service, you will be responsible for the production and reporting of advanced analytics to support executive, strategic and operational decision making in the delivery of urgent and emergency care. Drawing on your expertise with statistical modelling, you will identify patterns in our data, developing forecasts and predictive tools which capture essential features of service dynamics. You will be part of a drive to achieve a culture of excellence in our use of data, ensuring modern standards for code development and analysis are adhered to in the organisation. Through all this, you will help to deliver a more effective and efficient service, and therefore better outcomes for our patients.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join Forecasting and Planning, taking ownership of a newly established Integrated Urgent Care (IUEC) function. Alongside the Head of Data Science, you will be part of an enthusiastic and technically minded team, using your data science skillset to tackle challenges facing critical public services. You will own and drive the advanced analytics, assurance and planning projects for IUEC, and confidence in presenting complex findings to non-technical audiences is essential. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with:

  • Demand and capacity planning in a healthcare environment
  • Analytical approaches to performance management
  • Line management experience in a data science team
  • Coding (R/Python, SQL) and experience with version control
  • Experience with classical statistics and machine learning

About us

Our vision is to deliver outstanding emergency and urgent care whenever and wherever needed for everyone in London, 24/7, 365 days a year. Our strategy 2023-2028 outlines how we plan to achieve this, and is centred upon three missions focused on:

  • Our care- delivering outstanding emergency and urgent care whenever and wherever needed.
  • Our organisation- being an increasingly inclusive, well-led and highly skilled organisation people are proud to work for.
  • Our London- using our unique pan-London position to contribute to improving the health of the capital.

To achieve these three missions we have set ourselves 50 commitments to deliver over the next five years. In developing these ambitious commitments, we have engaged extensively both inside our organisation, with our partners and with our patients, and we have analysed population trends and horizon scanned the future.
