Job summary
As a Senior Data Scientist at the London Ambulance Service, you will be responsible for the production and reporting of advanced analytics to support executive, strategic and operational decision making in the delivery of urgent and emergency care. Drawing on your expertise with statistical modelling, you will identify patterns in our data, developing forecasts and predictive tools which capture essential features of service dynamics. You will be part of a drive to achieve a culture of excellence in our use of data, ensuring modern standards for code development and analysis are adhered to in the organisation. Through all this, you will help to deliver a more effective and efficient service, and therefore better outcomes for our patients.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join Forecasting and Planning, taking ownership of a newly established Integrated Urgent Care (IUEC) function. Alongside the Head of Data Science, you will be part of an enthusiastic and technically minded team, using your data science skillset to tackle challenges facing critical public services. You will own and drive the advanced analytics, assurance and planning projects for IUEC, and confidence in presenting complex findings to non-technical audiences is essential. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with:
- Demand and capacity planning in a healthcare environment
- Analytical approaches to performance management
- Line management experience in a data science team
- Coding (R/Python, SQL) and experience with version control
- Experience with classical statistics and machine learning

- Extensive practical experience and expertise in conducting thorough data analysis, mining and modelling in a work environment
- Evidence of continued professional development in the data science (or a related) field through short courses, certificates, and engagement in the data science community
- GCSE mathematics or equivalent

- Extensive experience of producing, analysing and interpreting data information in a work environment, with significant evidence of the underlying theory of around data exploration, statistical inference, predictive analytics and making recommendations
