To be considered for this role you must have a full UK driving licence and in addition either hold a C1 category or have C1 provisional and be willing to pass C1.

C1 is the category that allows driving of larger vehicles including ambulances.

Main duties of the job

The purpose is to ensure LAS vehicles are cleaned, checked, refuelled and are roadworthy; ensuring they are correctly stocked with clinical supplies and equipment. Including the accurate recording stock movement using an electronic system, use of jet wash and the preparation of module bags/pouches.

This role has a shift pattern and successful applicants will be expected to work full rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week & 52 weeks a year including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Any job offer will be conditional on being able to work a full rotating shift pattern.

Currently the team work predominantly nights shifts as detailed below; this is subject to review.

Current pattern: Thursday to Saturday (3 shifts) 2300-0900 27hr per week excluding breaks OR Sunday to Wednesday (4 shifts) 2300-0900 36hr per week excluding breaks.

The role includes driving ambulances between locations so a full UK driving license is essential, preferably with a C1 categorisation. As a minimum, we will consider candidates who hold a C1 provisional with a commitment to obtain a full C1 licence within 12 months of commencement. Support to obtain full C1 will be provided but failure to succeed will result in withdrawal of the role, details of the support package will be provided to successful candidates.

  • To re-stock medical consumables stores on emergency vehicles to ensure each shift starts with a full load

  • To undertake the safety/functional checks of on-board equipment (medical and non-medical)
  • To use the electronic equipment tracking system to identify both the compliance of equipment on operational vehicles and any shortfalls of equipment/consumables
  • To move vehicles on stations for refuelling, cleaning, parking, and to move them between stations and/or workshops
  • To restock module bags held in Make Ready stores to standard
  • To work to deadlines and in all weathers

  • A reasonable /intermediate level of numeracy and literacy (GCSE or equivalent)
